After wrestling with this issue to download / refresh over 140k rows of data daily I believe the problem is pivot tables embedded in the same workbook. After downloading data and creating pivot tables the data would time out on any overwrite or refresh. But…. if I use Queries then the issue does not seem to occur.

To better understand why the Timeout is being thrown we would first need to verify if the timeout is being thrown by the source service or at the Connect Spreadsheets level. That being said would you be able to elaborate more on the exact error message you are seeing?
Additionally, did you have a chance to set up logging for the connection failing with the Timeout error? If not could you set up logging for the connection and review the logs to gather any insights on the failure?
